Double Dancer (Short Film)

Type: Student Film

Synopsis: A dancer battles to free herself from the control of her reflection in the mirror. The short film is a student project for the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at Brooklyn College.

Role (non-union): ZAHRA, 20, BIPOC, female-identifying or gender non-conforming. A dance student minutes away from her big show. A perfectionist to a fault, she’s determined to prove her worth to the audience -- including her conservative mother. The performer will also play THE DOUBLE, a waking manifestation of Zahra’s fear. Better, stronger, smarter. Ready to take her place beyond being Zahra’s mere reflection. Zahra’s dance style is a blend between contemporary dance and her cultural heritage. We invite the performer to borrow from their cultural background to choreograph Zahra's routine (if Punjabi, the dance may be bhangra or giddha, Palestinian dabke, Ethiopian eskista, etc.).

Dates: The project will shoot 4 days in NYC in February - March 2021. We’re taking precautions to keep our cast and crew safe through the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be a COVID-19 compliance officer on our set for the duration of production.

Self-tape: Please submit a self-tape of a dance piece that you’ve choreographed fitting Zahra’s dance style. It can be a recent clip of an earlier performance. Reach out to saleem.gondal@feirstein.film and rose.frullani-bacon@feirstein.film for a side for reference.
