BAX 2022 Prospective Teaching Artist Workshop: DEADLINE EXTENDED!

BAX Education is excited to announce the return of its annual  Prospective Teaching Artist Workshop. Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. To apply, please review the instructions below.

BAX | Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Education Department offers a broad range of youth programs (ages 1-18 years) in tumbling, dance, and drama. BAX offers competitive hourly pay commensurate with experience and position responsibilities. BAX faculty contracts are typically by term or for the full school year (2021/22 season is September 13, 2021-June 25, 2022). Faculty are invited to attend bi-monthly BAX professional developments and faculty meetings, for which they are compensated, as well as participate in periodic presentations (show and shares) for peer and/or family audiences. BAX Youth Education’s 2022 Prospective Teaching Artist Workshop is Thursday, November 18 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. From 12:30-1 p.m. there will be an optional time for questions and answers with the Education Dept. staff and current faculty. For this application cycle we especially seek bilingual teaching artists, teaching artists with experience working in public school residencies, and with backgrounds in tumbling and drama. Please note that attending the workshop does not guarantee you a teaching position but makes you eligible for teaching positions at BAX as they arise.

To apply, please submit a one page cover letter describing your interest in teaching at BAX, past teaching experiences in performance and working youth, as well as specific areas of expertise. Please also include an updated teaching & performance resume/CV to education@bax.org by Friday, October 29, 2021. Your application will be reviewed by the Education Department and competitive candidates will be notified if they are being invited to the audition by November 1, 2021. If invited to the workshop, you will be asked to submit a truncated sample lesson plan (10 mins) by November 12. This sample lesson will be facilitated at the workshop for other applicants and some current BAX faculty. (More specific instructions about the sample lesson will be provided upon invitation.) Workshop participants must commit to the entire workshop duration, no exceptions.

Participation in the workshop does NOT guarantee a teaching position. Select individuals following the workshop will however be put on BAX’s faculty roster and be eligible for teaching position openings at BAX and in BAX school residencies as they arise. Due to high volume of applications, we will only be in touch with candidates we wish to invite to participate in the next stages of this application. No phone calls please.
