About the Position

The ideal candidate possesses a passion for education, diversity, equity and inclusion, has a background in dance and theater, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Candidate is fully dedicated to the mission of Brooklyn Prospect, and committed to keeping the academic and personal success of our students as a core focus, while striving to grow professionally and support the operational excellence of the school. This position reports to the Arts Department Head and will work closely with senior members of faculty, teach and/or co-teach 4 sections of academic courses, lead an advisory, as well as other related duties.

This candidate will be responsible for teaching 10th Grade Dance, IB Dance Year 2, and Cosmetology and Design. Dance instructors teach a variety of dance styles and techniques to students from beginner to advanced level and are responsible for creating appropriately challenging choreography, collaborating with the other dance teachers on curricular alignment, and directing the spring dance showcase. Cosmetology and Design is a 9/10th Grade semester-based course and a prerequisite for IB Visual Arts and IB Theater. This teacher will be responsible for developing a curriculum that encompasses elements of Visual Art and Theater that results in a final culminating project. The candidate will collaborate with the Visual and Performing Arts teachers and the Arts Department Head to create and execute this curriculum.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with course teams and the Department Head on modifying and differentiating lesson activities and assessments for individual groups of learners, some of whom are students with disabilities.  
Teach 2 sections of Dance
Teach 2 sections of another Performing or Visual Arts (Cosmetology and Design preferred) 
Direct the Spring Dance Showcase
Work to develop students’ college readiness skill and IB learner traits as a year long advisor of 12-15 students
Complete ongoing reflection and revision of curriculum based upon student data, IB  Principles of Practice and New York State Regents standards
Attend and support all in school & after school performances within the Arts Department
Attend all after school meetings and professional development

Candidate Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Education preferred
2+ years experience working in relevant field; experience in school environment preferred
Experience teaching high school physical education
Experience with the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and/or Diploma Program (DP) is a plus  
Current and valid New York State Teaching License
