Boston Dance Theater (BDT) seeks versatile dance artists with strong technical, creative, and performance abilities for part time contracts for the 2023 season.

BDT has immediate openings for the position of Core Member Jr, a 39-week contract with health, vision, and dental benefit package options. Core Members rehearse Monday-Friday for approximately 20 hours per week. Responsibilities include interpreting company repertoire, participating in company-wide professional development (assets for artists, anti-racism, and conflict resolution) training, facilitating company class, and serving as BDT ambassadors within the broader dance community during a time when Boston Dance Theater’s at-home activity is increasing and the company is preparing for national touring.

BDT’s 2023 repertory includes work by Karole Armitage, Rena Butler, Rosie Herrera, Alessandro Sousa Pereira and Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, and will join existing works by Marco Goecke, Micaela Taylor, Shannon Gillen, Sidra Bell, Yin Yue, and Itzik Galili. Dancers should familiarize themselves with the work of these choreographers in advance of the audition.

Interested dancers are encouraged to apply for BDT’s Winter Immersion Project (Jan 3-6) to gain more experience with the company’s artistic process prior to the audition. WIP Applications are being accepted until December 19.

Boston Dance Theater is committed to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion for all. As we seek to build the most complementary team when it comes to skill, perspective, and experience, we strongly encourage candidates from underrepresented communities to apply.

$16,500, commensurate with experience.

Benefits include:

-BDT is in the process of finalizing health, vision, and dental insurance package options

-Generous paid sick leave

-Free physical therapy sessions

-One piece of BDT merch each year

-Eligibility for a subsidized $25 BDA Associate Membership under Boston Dance Theater’s organizational umbrella.

Under the co-artistic direction of Jessie Jeanne Stinnett and award winning, Dutch-Israeli, choreographer Itzik Galili, Boston Dance Theater (BDT) is Boston’s first contemporary dance repertory company with international ties at the leadership level. With a commitment to presenting works of socio-political relevance, BDT matches the talents of Boston-based dancers with those of acclaimed global choreographers, broadening the scope of contemporary dance practice and performance in our city and beyond. To date, BDT has presented thirteen commissioned works and remounted four pieces by both new and distinguished choreographers. BDT is a registered 501(c)3 tax-exempt charity as of 2018. BDT's mission is to build and sustain a professional contemporary dance company dedicated to providing high quality dance performances, dance education and community outreach, to strengthen the dance community in Boston, create new dance audiences, and to advance the contemporary dance profession.

For pre-professional artists seeking opportunities to further their training alongside BDT, positions are also available within its tuition-based Trainee Program for the 2023/24 season. Limited scholarships are available for BIPOC artists.
