Assistant for a teen with a disability, 15-20 hrs per week

 

Inviting patient, curious and compassionate individuals interested in furthering inclusion.

 

Position Function:

Assisting a teen with high complexity needs at school (in a wholistic learning program that supports creativity, freedom, inclusion and collaboration) and at home.

 

Position Responsibilities:

• Maintain a calm and harmonious atmosphere

• Assist in facilitating activities of the day (open the day / set intentions, work through cycles of intention, creation, reflection and sharing, close the day / gratitude circle)

• Reflect life skills acquired through dance

• Assist with activities of daily living

• Guide a physical activity (stretching, dancing or similar)

• Collaborate with teachers, daily

• Collaborate with therapists / health professionals, as needed

 

Schedule:

2 or 3 school days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday): 11:15 am to 4:15 pm

1 home day (Saturday or Sunday): 9:30 am to 2:30 pm

3 or 4 days per week

additional hours possible

 

Location:

School: Brooklyn

Home: Manhattan, Midtown East

 

Pay rate:

$35 to $40 / hr

 

Required:

1 year commitment (minimum)

Experience working with people in a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities

Basic understanding of Self Directed Education
