SUMMER PERFORMANCE PROJECT: “Tell Me How You Breathe”

We are looking for 3-4 strong dancers / movers / performers to join the New York Dance Ensemble. 

 

Loom Ensemble, directed by Neva Cockrell and Raphael Sacks, is working with a core group of professional actors from throughout the US to create the show "Tell Me How You Breathe" for outdoor parks and venues in MA, VT and NY this summer. The New York Dance Ensemble will join the tour for all shows in the Hudson Valley and in NYC. 

 

About the show "Tell Me How You Breathe": 

Wildfires choke the air, police steal breath, and respiratory disease halts business-as-usual. The lungs are the site of interconnectedness and the organ of grief. Though these intersecting crisis were highlighted in 2020, in many ways they continue to intensify. “Who gets to breathe freely, fully, with ease,” is still a necessary question, directly touching on racism, environmental crisis, and public health. Loom’s newest piece “Tell Me How You Breathe,” brings audiences to a world where climate crisis has progressed just slightly more than our present day, to play out the clash between public health systems (institutional power structures) and ancestral healing practices. 

 

This summer Loom Ensemble is bringing a racially diverse ensemble of professional dance-theater performers into public parks and outdoor venues across the northeast, to move the grief up and out. With the nourishment of participatory ceremony and song, Loom grounds this political conversation in the physical body, to incite the radical act of collectively imagining a more just and beautiful world.

 

Performer Call:

Looking for 3-4 strong movers, ages 18 and up. Must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates, and is responsible for own transportation or carpooling. Movement experience required, formal dance training not required. $200 stipend plus housing and food during residency and performance weekends.

 

Housing / Food:

During rehearsals at WildHeart and performances in the Hudson Valley, we can provide housing if you do not live locally. You would be in shared accommodations, or you can bring your own camping equipment to camp. 

 

During our weekend of performances in NYC, we are still looking into housing. Please let us know if you have a place to stay in NYC for 1 or 2 nights, and if someone else could stay with you.

3) Short description of your movement experience, specifically: willingness/comfortability to create movement, improvise, share weight/partner/touch

5) Let us know if you’ll be staying at WildHeart during the rehearsal intensives and for Hudson Valley performances

6) Let us know if you have a place to stay in NYC, and if anyone else could stay with you

7) Send a video of you dancing, so we can see your style!
