Seeking dancers to attend workshop with final student showing

Isadora Duncan 2024 workshop by Dances We Dance

Seeking young and professional dancers curious about discovering and/or re-visiting the technique of Isadora Duncan, in conjunction with learning a masterful repertory piece.

?This is a 3 hour/week workshop running for 8 weeks, from April 24 to June 12, every Wednesday from 2-5 pm. We will have a studio showing on the last day. Limited availability - SIGN UP BY MARCH 27 TO SECURE YOUR SPOT.

Working from breath and the solar plexus as our initiatory center, this class is designed to introduce the dancer to the technique and style of Isadora Duncan, an original thinker and cultural/artistic phenomenon, who fanned the flames of modernism 100 years ago. This authentic material is examined and informed by a contemporary perspective reflecting the dance/movement backgrounds of the instructor, bringing additional support and inspiration to your current technique.

The class uses imagery improvisation, features a contemporary take on Duncan’s classic warm-up, and moves through rhythmic and locomotive patterns, culminating in danced phrase works. Come share in a living history of modern dance and gain a physical and intellectual perspective on the origins of contemporary theater and dance.

?This is an intermediate to advanced workshop: no prior knowledge of Duncan technique is necessary, however, dancers should be prepared to sustain moderate to heavy aerobic movements and locomotion. More opportunity to perform could be available in future dates. The class (first 90 min) is open to all levels.

At the end of the workshop, one or more students will be chosen to join Dances We Dance/Performing Ensemble for their 2024 fall season.
