Applications are now open for the MA Screendance at London Contemporary Dance School, starting January 2026!

Are you an artist working at the intersection of dance and film, movement-focused media, or experimental digital arts? Are you looking to deepen your creative practice, expand your filmmaking and writing skills, and develop your critical understanding of screendance?

As the only course of its kind in the world, MA Screendance at The Place in London, England is designed for artists from a range of backgrounds—including dance, film, and experimental media. The program offers a unique opportunity to explore the theory and practice of making dance for the screen.

Led by internationally renowned screendance artist Dr. Katrina McPherson, the course features faculty and guest lecturers including Cara Hagan, Gitta Wigro, Khadifa Wong, Omari Carter, David Hinton, Douglas Rosenberg, Dr. Erin Brannigan, and more!

The curriculum is structured around three units:

Making Screendance: develop hands-on filmmaking and creative production skills

Communicating Screendance: gain expertise in writing, curating, and programming screendance

Situating Screendance: explore how screendance operates within the wider arts and cultural landscape

We are holding an online information session on 2 June and an in-person Open Day on 16 May at London Contemporary Dance School for those interested in visiting. You can also check out our website to learn more about resources, equipment available, and to hear testimonials from alumni!
