Cora Dance Brooklyn (CDB) provides free and pay-what-you-can recreational, pre-professional, and professional dance education programs in Red Hook, Brooklyn. CDB works in partnership with other professional and community arts-based organizations to provide personalized support to students. Cora’s education programs prioritize NYCHA, Section-8, and unhoused families to ensure students who may be restricted due to financial circumstances are assured a lasting artistic community, excellent programming, and successful paths to careers in the field. No one is ever turned away from Cora’s education programs based on their ability to pay. Strong candidates must possess experience in dance education, working in diverse settings that address equity, and be passionate, detail-oriented, highly-motivated collaborators with a sincere desire to work cooperatively with youth, parents, community partners, faculty, and staff. Cora Dance’s mission is to create transformative dance experiences, addressing the inequities that limit people from bonding deeply with the art form and one another to build common ground.
Position Summary:
After expansion into several community spaces across Red Hook in 2024, Cora Dance Brooklyn has restructured its educational offerings and is accepting applications for experienced youth dance educators to join our team from October 14, 2025, to April 13, 2026. This position will be filled by an exceptionally qualified candidate who is an intuitive and collaborative dance educator with a sincere love for young children and is able to adapt and work effectively in a varied environment. These classes take place in a school classroom with some activities potentially taking place in the school’s performing arts room, gymnasium, or Cora’s gathering space.
Classes take place during after-school hours and may require assistance from the teacher in escorting children in and out of the classroom. Strong candidates are experienced in engaging students in non-studio environments and work creatively within a bustling, non-traditional space.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced teacher to instruct the following classes on Mondays:
- Hip Hop Level 2 (Grades 3 and 4) @4:15-4:55pm
- Hip Hop Level 3(Grades 5 and 6) @4:55-5:55pm
- Hip Hop Level 4 (Ages 11+) @ 6:30 - 7:45 pm
- The Teaching Artist will arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the first class. Class times are subject to change.
Qualifications Required:
- A passion for and commitment to training, mentoring, and inspiring young dancers.
- A flexible and collaborative spirit.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching technique to young dancers
ages 7-18.
- A knowledge of and engagement with the history of the dance technique
being imparted.
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience teaching a group of children with varying levels of dance
experience in a shared classroom space.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Organized, responsive, and punctual with strong, consistent communication
skills.
Preferred:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
