Call for Dance Collaborators: New Work by Mark Bankin

Dancer in old white dress is reflected in a black lake in an abandoned warehouse @lightreat

I'm searching for inventive, deep, and technically strong dancers for a long-term collaboration on a new evening-length work premiering February 2026. The choreography is layered, structurally rigorous dance-theater exploring memory, disintegration, and the grotesque taking place in a wheat field set. The process will suit dancers attuned to subtlety, open to deep research, and comfortable working in physically complex, and psychology-themed territory.

Artist Bio:

Mark Bankin is a NYC-based choreographer and dance diagram specialist. He directs a repertory ensemble that draws on archives and movement-notation partitions to craft rigorous, formal, structurally exacting works. His dance-theater dramas, devised with multidisciplinary collaborators, investigate memory, loss, disintegration, and interiority; they are grounded in psychosomatics and states, informed by dramaturgical inquiry, and employ a distinct piece-specific movement framework and devising methodology. He eschews conventional proscenium settings, self-producing in abandoned churches, decommissioned warships, and soon-to-be-demolished warehouses, where architecture’s entropy mirrors the body’s.

About You:

Movers grounded in strong technique and non-mainstream vocabularies, with a deep commitment to their craft, extensive performance experience, and a sensitivity to choreographic detail. Advanced-level dancers trained in modern forms (Limón, Graham, Duncan, etc.), dance notation systems, or backgrounds in traditional/experimental vocabularies (Butoh, Bharatanatyam, Flamenco, Mime, Ukrainian folk dance, Tango, Debke, Hula)

All genders, identities, backgrounds, and older dancers are all very welcome.

Compensation & Commitment:

This is so far an unfunded opportunity. We are in the early stages of building the company and pursuing funding, co-productions, and touring opportunities. However, I am looking for serious collaborators who want to build something powerful together and grow with the work. Touring opportunities in Europe are currently in development for summer 2026. We rehearse approx. twice a week for 3 hours. Dancers receive footage, rehearsal support, and priority casting in paid projects. For externally produced performances, dancers receive stipends. Dancers also get company classes in resurrected Wigman, Jooss, and Cebron repertoire, as well as optional training in movement notation.
