CASTING

Seeking 4 male dancers and 2 female dancers to join us for the upcoming season:

A) IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY - SWING DANCER (1 Male Identifying Dancer, 1 Female Identifying Dancer)

Rehearsals in December and January

Performance: January 12, 2026

 

Required dates:

December 12, 2025: 9am - 1pm
January 9: 10am - 2pm
January 11: 10am - 2pm
January 12: 10am - 2pm (rehearsal), 6:30pm call, 8:30pm show

We might add two more rehearsals in January (Monday or Friday, same times)

Rate: $23/hour for rehearsals | $150 for performance

 

B) FEBRUARY PROJECT (3 Male Identifying and 1 Female Identifying Dancers)

Rehearsals: February 2 - 27, 2026

Schedule: 10am - 2pm

Tech Rehearsal: February 26, 6pm - 10:30pm

Performances: February 27-28, 2026 (Call: 6:30pm)

All rehearsal dates:

February: 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, 25, 26 (tech), 27-28 (performances)

 

C) SPRING/SUMMER PROJECT (4 Male Identifying and 2 Female Identifying Dancers)

Rehearsals: April - July 2026

Schedule: April-May (Mondays, 3 hours), June-July (Mondays & Fridays, 3 hours)

Performance: July 25-26, 2026

Special Skills- indicate if you have (a plus, but not required): Ability to rollerskate, ride a bike, or drive a car

Rehearsal dates:

April (Mondays): 13, 20, 27
May (Mondays): 4, 11, 18
June (Mondays & Fridays): 1, 5, 8, 12, 26, 29
July (Mondays, Fridays, Thursday, Friday): 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 23, 24
Performance: July 25-26, 2026

 

NOTE: There is a separate cast and contract for each project..

 

REQUIREMENTS

MANDATORY

Professional dancers with experience in professional dance companies
Punctuality, seriousness, and commitment are essential - we are very big on this
Virtuosic and athletic ability
Strong technical and physical training across multiple dance styles:

Styles: Contemporary dance, Urban dance styles, Ballet, Traditional African Dance

Additional experience in these styles is a plus: Acrobatics, Capoeira, Martial Arts

Valid work permit for the duration of contract (required for all dancers)
Ability to work collaboratively
Comfortable with physically demanding repertoire

 

ENCOURAGED TO APPLY

ABOUT THE WORK

These pieces are highly technical and physically demanding, requiring virtuosic and athletic dancers with training in various dance styles. We are looking for serious, committed artists who bring professional experience and discipline to the work.

ABOUT PETRA ZANKI

Petra Zanki is a Croatian-American choreographer and Artistic Director of Cie. Petra Zanki Dance Company, a Brooklyn-based contemporary dance company. She holds an MFA in choreography from CODARTS Rotterdam and her work is deeply rooted in using dance as a tool for peacebuilding and community healing. Her artistic practice stems from her experiences growing up during the Yugoslav Wars. Petra's company is fiscally sponsored by New York Live Arts (NYLA) and has received grants from Brooklyn Arts Council, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, and Dance Workforce Resilience Fund, among others.

 

COMPENSATION

PROJECT A (Till It Tear Us Apart):

Rehearsals: $23/hour
Performance: $150 ( 1 show APAP)

 

PROJECT B (February Project):

Rehearsals: $23/hour
Performances: $135 per show (2 shows)

 

PROJECT C (Spring/Summer Project):

Rehearsals: $20-$23/hour depending on role and experience
Performances: $135 per show ( 2 shows)

 

HOW TO APPLY

We are reading all resumes and watching all videos. Selected dancers will be invited to audition during company rehearsal.

Please submit as soon as possible:

1. Resume/CV

2. Two (2) video links, 2-3 minutes each

Ideally: one production video and one improvisation video
If you have a reel, it's okay as long as we can see you dancing well and it's not heavily edited to look cool without showing skill, we don’t care if reel is well made.
We don't care if you made the reel or someone else did - we need to see your skill
We don't care if it's filmed with your phone or professionally shot - skill is skill
Must be individual links (YouTube, Vimeo, or similar)
If using Google Drive links, ensure they are set to public/viewable by anyone with the link
Make sure all links are working before submitting
Videos longer than 2-3 minutes will not be watched

3. Instagram account showcasing your dancing (if you have one)

4. Very brief statement of interest (no need to elaborate why you want to work with us, no cover letter needed) and indicate if you are available for all or some of the following:

     a) Swing dancer - upcoming production in December and January (dates listed above)

     b) February production (dates listed above)

     c) April-July production (dates listed above)
