Samaw Dance Company is an AAPI+ performance company rooted in street styles and contemporary movement, created to support AAPI+ visibility, advocacy, and storytelling onstage. Our work is a fusion of contemporary jazz, street jazz, hip hop, commercial dance, house, and waacking, and we look for dancers who can move between styles with versatility, musicality, and intention.

For this audition, we are looking for dancers who identify as part of the Asian Pacific Islander+ community and are excited by a collaborative creative process. You should be able to pick up choreography efficiently, show professional rehearsal etiquette, and feel comfortable learning and maintaining repertory while also contributing to the creation of new work.

Our season runs February through August (with the possibility of extending into the fall depending on opportunities). Rehearsals are Saturdays 4–6 PM (Feb–May), then shift to Fridays 4–8 PM + Saturdays 4–6 PM (June–August).

We are casting a small number of understudies to learn rep and cover different tracks across performances. Current performance dates include 3/15, 5/2, 5/16, 5/31, and 8/21–8/22, with additional tentative dates to be announced. While availability for every performance is not required, you will be more competitive if you can commit to most dates. Resonance (8/21–8/22) is our flagship show and is required availability.

Payment Transparency

Samaw Dance Company is a small, fiscally sponsored project, and we are doing our best to provide stipends that recognize the time, labor, and care our dancers bring into the work. We want to be upfront that these rates are currently lower than we ultimately want them to be. Even so, it matters to us to show appreciation in real ways, and we hope that with continued funding and community support we can increase pay as the company grows. We deeply value your time, effort, and commitment.

Rehearsal travel stipend (flat monthly rate):

$24/month (February–May)

$48/month (June–August)
Intended to help cover MTA travel costs.

Performance stipend:

$40 per performance
