ABT is excited to offer a 6-week Wig, Hair & Makeup internship for the 2026 Summer season! This internship is focused on Wig & Makeup styling and artistry for live theater. It is an educational format where applicants will work under and learn from the full-time Hair and Makeup staff at ABT in their production studios as well as in the theater during live performances. This program is for individuals who would like to learn more about job opportunities within the HMU live theatrical industry as well as expanding their skill sets necessary to work in the Hair or Makeup departments in a theatrical setting.

During the first two weeks at ABT’s warehouse in Secaucus, applicants will observe and practice hands-on techniques of wig styling, from basic wig care to various styles; learn about products, inventory and show documentation; and participate in makeup demos, facial hair application and some basic prosthetic applications. During the remaining four weeks at the Met Opera House, applicants will observe and assist with setting up a hair/makeup room, wig applications, and theatrical makeup application for performances during ABT’s Summer season. Applicants will also learn about working in a union setting.

This program is open to any applicants serious about pursuing a career in Hair or Makeup. While prior education is not mandatory it is recommended that applicants have some Hair or Makeup related experience.

Dates: June 1 – July 12, 2026
Schedule: 15-25 hours/week

Warehouse Weeks will be approximately 2-3 days a week from 8am-4pm
Theater weeks will be approximately 2-3 days a week from 12-10pm

Stipends: $125/week Travel Stipend
