Call for Project Dancers

Tabula Rasa Dance Theater (TRDT), led by Artistic Director Felipe Escalante, is seeking dancers experienced in Modern, Ballet, and Contemporary styles for “Un-Choreographed,” an anthology of dance featuring new work from choreographers of Latin American descent. Rehearsals will begin in May 2026, culminating in two performances at El Museo del Barrio’s Theater, El Teatro, on June 5th and 6th, 2026.

The intention of “Un-Choreographed” is to explore, through the lens of heritage, culture, and corporeality, the lived experiences of the Latine diaspora in 2026. Escalante plus three additional participating choreographers will create new work for the project to interpret this theme from their individual perspectives, building a kaleidoscope of Latine expression through the medium of dance. Dancers will be cast in up to two pieces for the full evening of work. Dancers who identify closely with the theme of the project are highly encouraged to apply.

Initial audition applications are due by 03/20/2026. Applicants invited to the in-person auditions on Monday, March 23rd and Tuesday, March 24th at 12pm will be notified on a rolling basis by email by 03/22/2026. To apply, please use this link: https://forms.gle/K2Vi77VWRmqg1Yza8

Performances at El Museo del Barrio’s Theater on the following dates:

Friday 6/5- 7:30pm

Saturday 6/6- 7:30pm

Compensation will include:

Hourly rehearsal compensation of $17 per hour. Depending on casting, dancers will be called from 7.5 to 15 hours per week during the rehearsal process.

Logistics:

We are seeking fully committed individuals who can attend all scheduled rehearsals and bring their unique artistic expression to the process. Please note that, although we have done our best to outline all particulars here, project parameters may shift slightly as we navigate the complex infrastructure of the arts sector in NYC.

About TRDT:

Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Felipe Escalante, includes a diverse group of dancers, many of whom identify as immigrants. The company is concerned with the pressing social justice issues of our times, and with the historical precedents for them. We would like our community to connect with our work as an opportunity to pause and reflect on the world they live in. We strive to motivate our audience to examine their values, with the aim of creating a better environment for future generations.
