The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for implementing and managing the marketing, communications, and branding strategies of Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion. This role ensures a consistent and compelling public presence across all platforms including digital media, print materials, website, and communications systems. Working closely with leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors, the Marketing and Communications Manager oversees the website, audience development, fundraising campaigns in support of all partnerships and public programming. This position also plays a key role in managing communications infrastructure—including e-blasts and CRM communications—and contributing to long-term marketing and audience engagement strategies.
This position is fully in-person and based in the studio, with travel to partner schools and performance venues as needed to support events and programs.
About the Organization
Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion presents dynamic dance theatre productions that activate emotional expression. Through an interplay of athletic and articulate motion, we present theatrical and immediate works that engage audiences from start to finish and beckon a response of thought, feeling, and soul. Our education program, Notes in Motion, brings inclusive dance programs to the NYC Public Schools in styles including modern, ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Latin, African, and more. Programs are united by our singular approach to dance education, The Movement Exchange Method, which combines technical instruction with creative skill-building and collaborative learning. We aim to provide access to the art form of dance to inspire the next generation of dance appreciators.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or related field, preferably within the arts, nonprofit, or education sectors
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences (schools, donors, general public, press)
Experience managing e-blast platforms and CRM systems (e.g., Network for Good, Salesforce, Mailchimp, or similar)
Experience updating and maintaining websites (WordPress; Elementor)
Proficiency in digital design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines simultaneously
Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and project management skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Comfort working in a small, collaborative team with a hands-on approach to implementation
Experience with ticketing platforms and event management
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in dance, performing arts, arts education, or cultural organizations
Familiarity with social media strategy and analytics
Experience supporting fundraising campaigns, events, or development communications
Photo and video editing experience and familiarity with digital asset management
Additional Requirements
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends for performances and events
Willingness to travel locally to partner schools and venues as needed
Ability to lift and transport materials for events (e.g., marketing displays, printed materials)
Commitment to the mission of Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre/Notes in Motion and interest in arts education and community engagement
Key Responsibilities
Brand Management and Content Development
Maintain a consistent brand identity across all organizational platforms including website, social media, digital communications, print materials, and online forms.
Ensure all materials align with organizational branding guidelines and messaging.
Develop and maintain up-to-date marketing collateral including brochures, one-pagers, and promotional materials for Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre and Notes in Motion programs.
Oversee design and production of materials for the annual performance season, gala, and special events.
Website and Digital Presence
Maintain and regularly update the organization’s wordpress elementor website with performance information, photos, videos, program details, and partner information. Keep all plugins up-to-date.
Ensure website content remains current, engaging, and aligned with marketing initiatives.
Manage online ticketing and event information in coordination with organizational platforms
Collaborate with Social Media Coordinator to create clear goals and aligned workflow
Photography, Video, and Media Archive
Work with Archive and Social Media Coordinator to maintain and organize the organization’s photography and video archive.
Ensure images and video documentation are catalogued and readily accessible for marketing, grant applications, press outreach, and presenter communication.
Work with the organization’s publicity consultant to supply images and maintain an archive of press coverage, reviews, and published materials.
Communications and CRM Management
Manage all organizational e-blasts and digital communications to schools, audiences, partners, and supporters through Network for Good and Sales Forces.
Maintain communication lists and segmentation to support targeted outreach to audiences, donors, school partners, presenters, and community members.
Coordinate messaging across Salesforce and Network for Good systems to ensure consistent and strategic communication with constituents.
Support staff and leadership in maintaining clear and consistent communication practices across organizational platforms.
Marketing Campaign Management
Develop and maintain a comprehensive marketing calendar to ensure timely promotion of performances, programs, and campaigns.
Execute marketing campaigns from start to finish including design, printing, mailing, digital promotion, and follow-up.
Produce promotional materials for performances including postcards, digital graphics, email content, event invitations, and social media assets.
Manage publicity and ticketing for special events and performances.
Coordinate the organization’s annual holiday fundraising campaign in collaboration with the Development team, including preparation of printed letters and mailing materials.
Events, Studio Support, and Public Engagement
Manage displays and marketing materials at performances, events, and public programs.
Oversee ticketing, guest relations, box office/usher staffing and supervision, and all front of house needs for all events.
Staff public events whenever possible, including check-in, audience engagement, and information tables when a professional box office is not present.
Coordinate community events, studio programs, Teaching Artist professional development, auditions, open rehearsals, and public-facing programs.
Work with the Education team to represent the organization at some partner school Culminating Events, including speaking welcome and closing remarks, coordinating with school leadership, technical needs, and photo/video.
Function as part of the operations team, opening and closing Amanda Selwyn Dance Studio for programs in collaboration with the team.
Strategic Planning and Audience Development
Develop and lead ongoing marketing and audience development strategies.
Develop communication and marketing initiatives to expand partnerships with schools, presenters, and community organizations.
Develop systems and strategies to increase program visibility and outreach to new schools and audiences.
Assist with long-term communications planning and organizational growth strategies.
Board and Organizational Support with Communications and Event Promotion
Work closely with the Board of Directors, Junior Board, Volunteers, and Committee Members by providing communications materials, reports, and marketing support for strategic initiatives and fundraising efforts.
Assist with preparation of materials for board meetings and development initiatives.
Collaborate with Development staff to create the organization’s Annual Report.
Grants, Partnerships, and Vendor Relations
Support grant proposals and reports by organizing and supplying required marketing materials and documentation.
Assist in maintaining relationships with the Department of Education and other government partners by supporting required filings and documentation.
Attend the Arts and Culture Services Fair and other sector events as needed.
Technology and Staff Support
Support staff in the use of organizational marketing and communications tools including Wordpress, Canva, Network for Good, Sales Force, Vimeo, and other digital platforms.
Maintain internal systems that ensure marketing materials and branding resources are easily accessible to staff.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as needed to support the marketing, communications, and programmatic needs of the organization.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours per week). The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.– 5 p.m., with some evenings and weekends required to support performances, events, and organizational programming. This position is fully in-person and based in the studio, with travel to partner schools and performance venues as needed.
Compensation
$25/hour | 40 hours per week
