General Event Staff at Gibney Dance
Reports to: Center Operations Manager – Production and Operations leads
Location: On-site at Gibney Center (primarily 280 Broadway, Lower Manhattan)
Compensation: $25/hour
Classification: Independent Contractor
Role Summary
General Events Staff (GES) are as-needed team members who provide hands-on event and space support across Gibney’s locations. This role supports a wide range of events including rentals, rehearsals, showings, internal programs, and performances.
GES work alongside Operations Associates, Rentals Managers, Operations Coordinators, and Center leadership depending on the event.
This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals interested in live events, customer service, and production support. Training is provided, and applicants of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
Schedules are flexible based on programming needs. GES are expected to follow Gibney policies and represent the organization with professionalism and integrity.
Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities (80%)
Prepare studios and performance spaces (setup/breakdown of risers, pipe-and-drape, chairs, etc.)
Operate basic lighting systems (wall panels or ETC Element 4 console presets)
Set up and run projectors, microphones, and A/V equipment
Provide front-of-house support (guest check-in, programs, customer service)
Serve as stagehand (load-ins, loadouts, backstage coordination)
Maintain a professional, safe, and welcoming environment
Uphold Gibney’s policies and standards of hospitality
Additional Responsibilities (20%)
Complete training sessions and refreshers
Support additional operational or production needs as assigned
Assist with other duties to ensure successful events and programs
Ideal Qualifications

Strong communication skills (in person and email)
Friendly, professional, and customer-service oriented
Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and communities
Reliable, punctual, and calm under pressure
Comfortable in fast-paced, event-based environments
Interest in or experience with production/technical systems (training provided)
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and remain on your feet during shifts
Detail-oriented with willingness to learn
