I am creating a short dance film (~5 mins) set in Long Island City, NYC that exists somewhere between 1980 and 2008. Think punk-Pina Bausch-prom. The spirit lives somewhere between the uninhibited chaos of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the raw intentionality of a Pina Bausch piece, and the sweaty, who-cares abandon of a Blink-182 or Fall Out Boy music video — the kind where nobody's trying to look cool and that's exactly what makes it cool. There's joy here — loud, physical, unapologetic joy.

I'm looking for movers who can hold both of those things at once: the "I don't give a shit" energy of a kid dancing alone in their bedroom at midnight and the precision of someone who knows exactly why every choice matters. You are a misfit who found their people. 

The dancing will consist of improvisational scores and some light choreography (reallllly light). Contemporary dance/improvisational forms/contact improvisation is helpful here. Acting experience/training is a plus. 

Important Details:

-Filming will be Monday, June 22nd from around 6p-9p
-Location is outside in Long Island City, NYC
-There will be 1 or 2 rehearsals the weekend of Sat June 20th/Sun 21st 
-This is a self-funded project, so unfortunately I am unable to pay performers. I will provide snacks and ensure this is a fun time. You will receive the footage of the film and if time permits, I will provide solo footage of each dancer (all with high-quality camera)

If you are unavailable for the shoot date/time, don't apply lol. If you are available for the shoot, but not the weekend before, feel free to still apply and we can see if we can work something out.

Don't sweat the questions/video too much. I just wanna get to know you better. The more truthful you can be, the better. I am looking for dynamic, idiosyncratic, unique performers. Dance "technique" is 2nd to these other qualities. All body types, dance ability, background, genders, etc. encouraged to apply.

Submissions due by Sunday May 10th! I will let you know either way by May 15th.
