Hello,

My name is Michael Bishop. I am a professioal award winning dancer, choreographer, and dance filmmaker here in New York. I am creating a new ballet for the Dumb Dance festival 2026 this June. I am looking for one male and one female dancers with great ballet, contemporary ballet and partnering dance experience. You will have to be able to do a full press lift. We will be working on an excerpt of a larger work title 'Without Words'.

Some Details:

Festival runs from june 26th-28th, potentially the 29th, with an expected tech day either that monday or tuesday. So you would need to reserve the entire week for tech and performances.

Rehearsals: I am looking to have rehearsals 2-3 days a week with 2-3 hours a day. Days of the week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The hours would fit between 2pm-8pm.

I am looking to start rehearsals by April 20th. Due to the amount of work I will have to do I am asking that you have a clear schedule for the rehearsal times please.

A little about the piece:

Without Words is a ballet that explores the various ways humans engage in relationships and communication as well as how those forms of relationships/communication break down or strengthen depending on our interactions. This ballet will be about 15-20mins in length when its completed. The section we will be working on, One Single Moment, is a little over 7 mins in length. The video linked is an adaptioin of a portion of this section that will be expanded on reworked.

A little about me:

As a choreographer I feel it is my duty to present works that speak to the human experience. My work, being that it is socially driven, reflects the racial, economic, moral, and political issues of our time drawing parallels to the past and questioning just how far we are perceived to have come. In my practice I investigate the subject matter through the lens of forward thinking, questioning how what we do now will affect our future. It is from this perspective that I engage with movement. Utilizing quirky, innovative and dynamic movements to symbolize the raw qualities of life, I ask these questions, “who are we?” and “where are we going?”

I am currently reevaluating my connection to dance and movement, exploring and finding new ways of authentically engaging and choreographing. So, I ask for your patinece as this process will involve a lot of exploration as I discover the depth of this piece.

I want you all to know in advance how appreciative I am of you, your time and your talent. Thank you for considering working with me.
