About the Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation:

The Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation (IDDF) is dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of Isadora Duncan — a visionary whose revolutionary approach to movement transformed the performing arts. We are now preparing for Isadora150, a landmark celebration marking the 150th anniversary of Isadora Duncan's birth (in 2027), featuring world-class performances, educational initiatives, archival exhibitions, and documentary film.

Position Overview:

IDDF is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and creative Director of Communications & Isadora150 Program Strategy to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the narrative and programming of a once-in-a-generation cultural milestone. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and strategic thinker who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

This is a part-time with option to move to full-time, hybrid position (starting at 20-30 hours/week) based in New York City, reporting directly to the Artistic Director. 

Key Responsibilities:

Isadora150 Vision & Programming Strategy

-Collaborate with the Artistic Director and team to shape and articulate the vision for Isadora150 across performance, educational, and archival programming
-Support the Associate Artistic Director and collaborators in designing innovative, world-class performance experiences
-Assist the Director of Educational Programming in scaling initiatives for Isadora150 with K–12 schools, higher education institutions, conservatories, and other partners
-Design and produce panel discussions; seek opportunities for academic papers and collaborations (e.g., with NYPL and other institutions)
-Translate conceptual ideas into polished written proposals; conduct research including historical/archival and analytical research to articulate the significance of Isadora Duncan's impact on the arts
-Research and identify potential collaborators, venues, and opportunities for Isadora150
-Build and maintain relationships with partners; lead and conduct outreach meetings; define clear action steps and timelines for initiatives

Communications & Marketing

-Draft and edit press releases; coordinate with the PR team
-Design and edit graphics and videos using tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
-Write and distribute email campaigns and newsletters
-Plan and execute a social media strategy and editorial calendar
-Oversee social media assistant
-Maintain and update the IDDF website (content, events, and updates)
-Manage and update the Levitate CRM/email database; attend Levitate meetings and trainings
-Maintain physical and Google calendars for Isadora150 programming, external communications, and internal operations
-Hold regular check-ins with team members and collaborators

 

Reporting & Culture

-Report regularly to the Artistic Director and Executive Director
-Communicate with the Board as requested
-Promote a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
-Contribute to articulating and upholding organizational values

Qualifications

-Ideally, experience as an executive or personal assistant with the ability to clarify and support leadership’s needs and goals
-Demonstrated experience in management, communications, marketing, or program strategy — ideally in the arts, nonprofit, or cultural sector
-Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
-Proficiency with design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and email marketing platforms
-Experience managing social media accounts and content calendars
-Strong research skills, including comfort with historical and archival material
-Experience in partnership development and relationship management
-Highly organized with strong project management skills and attention to detail
-Experience in film or video production a plus
-Genuine passion for dance, performance, and arts preservation

Compensation & Benefits:

$30.00-40.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
20–30 hours per week; opportunity to move to full-time
Standard national holidays observed
Reimbursement for pre-approved job-related expenses
Flexible hybrid work schedule

This is a non-exempt, part-time position. No medical or retirement benefits are included at this time.

Location:

Hybrid — remote and in-person at IDDF's New York City office.
