BalletX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet, seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Marketing & Communications to lead the organization’s marketing, communications, and audience engagement efforts. This role drives audience development and retention, increases earned revenue, and elevates BalletX’s brand visibility locally and nationally. 

We are seeking a creative, analytical, and highly organized leader who is comfortable both shaping big-picture strategy and executing it. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller and content creator, an effective project manager, and a collaborative, entrepreneurial partner who can translate organizational priorities into clear, compelling campaigns. 

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, including writing and producing content, building campaigns, and ensuring consistent, high-quality execution across all platforms. 

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director of Marketing & Communications supervises the Marketing & PR Manager and Design & Brand Manager, and collaborates closely with leadership across artistic, development, education, and operations teams. 

This position is full-time with a competitive salary range of $65,000-$75,000 (commensurate with experience) and accompanying benefits including health insurance, 4% 401k match, and paid time off. Position Overview 

The Director of Marketing & Communications leads the organization’s marketing, communications, and audience engagement efforts, with a primary focus on audience development and retention, earned revenue growth, and expanding BalletX’s brand awareness regionally and nationally. 

This role is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies that support performances, programs, and institutional priorities. The Director will oversee campaign planning, media strategy, content development, and brand management, ensuring alignment across all channels. 

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership 

? Develop and implement comprehensive seasonal and long-term marketing and communications strategies, in partnership with the Managing Director 

? Lead audience development and retention strategies, with a focus on expanding reach and deepening engagement 

? Drive earned revenue growth through strategic campaign planning, pricing alignment, and conversion optimization 

? Build BalletX’s brand awareness regionally and nationally through cohesive messaging, strategic advertising, and targeted outreach 

? Oversee marketing budgets and ensure efficient allocation of resources 

 

Campaigns & Communications 

? Support the Managing Director in developing and implementing institutional messaging and storytelling across performances, programs, and initiatives 

? Create and manage seasonal campaign plans and integrated communication calendars

? Develop and execute media plans, including paid, earned, and owned channels

? Oversee and guide PR strategy led by the Marketing & PR Manager, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and maximizing visibility and audience engagement 

? Collaborate with the Design & Brand Manager to ensure visual consistency and excellence across all materials 

? Lead marketing advance for touring engagements, collaborating with presenting venues to align strategy, maximize visibility, and capitalize on audience development and revenue opportunities 

 

Content Creation, Digital Media & Social Media 

? Create and/or oversee the production high-quality content across platforms, including eblasts, website, blog, social media, and digital media, ensuring consistent, compelling storytelling

? Capture and/or oversee production of digital content, including video and short-form media

? Support the Associate Artistic Director in executing social media strategy, including content planning and calendar management 

? Ensure all content reflects BalletX’s brand voice: vibrant, accessible, and artistically rigorous 

 

Partnerships & Outreach 

? Develop and manage marketing partnerships that expand reach and visibility ? Partner with the Development and Education teams to develop and promote audience development initiatives, including BalletX’s Young Patrons Circle, and community partnerships and programs 

? Identify opportunities for cross-promotional collaborations and audience growth 

 

Analytics, Reporting & Archiving 

? Track, analyze, and report on campaign performance across channels, and provide regular insights to leadership to inform strategy and decision-making

? Use data to refine campaigns and improve audience growth, engagement, and revenue outcomes 

? Maintain organized archives of marketing campaigns to support institutional knowledge and future planning 

 

Team & Cross-Departmental Collaboration 

? Supervise and mentor marketing team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment 

? Partner cross-departmentally to align marketing efforts with fundraising, education, and artistic priorities 

? Develop and strengthen systems for communication and workflow across departments 

Qualifications & Experience 

? 5+ years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in the performing arts or nonprofit sector 

? Demonstrated success in audience development, revenue growth, and brand building

? Strong strategic thinking with the ability to execute at a high level 

? Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills 

? Experience developing and managing integrated marketing campaigns 

? High level of skill and proficiency in digital content creation, including video filming and editing

? Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp or similar preferred) and CRM systems (PatronManager or similar preferred) 

? Experience managing media planning, partnerships, and outreach initiatives

? Strong analytical skills and experience with reporting tools (e.g., Google Analytics, email metrics, social insights) 

? Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
