Programming and Communications Assistant

 

Keep Rising to the Top (KR3T’S) is seeking a Programming and Communications Assistant to join our team. Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Executive Director, Violeta Galagarza, this position will ideally begin by June 15, 2026. This is an in-person position with expected in-person hours Monday - Thursday. Hours each day will be determined with the candidate. Remote work will be possible upon agreement and need. The position will begin as a part-time employee position of 20 hours per week, at $22/hour. Upon the 3-month evaluation, the position may be increased in hours and/or pay. 

The Programming and Communications Assistant will play a key role in supporting the success of KR3TS’ programs, rehearsals, events, and community initiatives. This position blends strong non-profit programming skills with creativity in communications. The individual will help execute KR3TS’ programming, internal and external communications,  and support our mission of empowering the next generation through dance and the arts. Under the guidance of our Executive Director, the Programming Assistant  has the opportunity to bring their detailed project management and clear communication skills with their fresh perspective to support KR3T’S in serving our dance community.   

Responsibilities Include:

We are a very hands on, collaborative team where we all pitch where and when we are needed. This is not an exhaustive list; it’s representative of the broad scope of responsibility you may encounter in this position. 

PROGRAM SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist with coordination, logistics, and execution for classes, workshops, performances, and community events

- Maintain class rosters, schedules, and participant records in organizational system

- Communicate with teaching artists, volunteers, and program participants as needed

- Support grant reporting by helping track program data, attendance, and outcomes

- Assist with event setup, day-of coordination, and post-event wrap-up

- Support the Executive Director on program execution as needed

COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

- Draft, schedule, and publish content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

- Write and distribute e-newsletters and email announcements to our subscriber list

- Assist with developing marketing materials for programs and events (flyers, graphics, etc.)

- Coordinate photography/video at events for use in communications

The ideal candidate will have:

-1–3 years of experience in non-profit programming, marketing, communications, or related fields.

- Strong self-starting organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.

- Strong written communication skills with an eye for detail and tone (bilingual English/Spanish a plus).

- Comfort with social media management and basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Express, etc.)

- Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

- A passion and excitement for dance, NYC and supporting underrepresented communities.

- Located in NYC 

- A demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression principles in all settings and an eagerness to engage in dialogue around such issues

- Experience with online platforms such as Google Drive, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Mailchimp. GoDaddy and Givebutter are a plus

If secondary interviews are needed, they will occur the week of May 25th, 2026. ABOUT THE KEEP RISING TO THE TOP (KR3T’S)

Keep Rising to the Top (KR3T’S, located in East Harlem, provides accessible dance instruction for youth and young adults as a positive alternative to social and street pressures, allowing them the opportunity to reach their highest potential and become contributing members of our community. KR3T’S was founded in 1989 by Ms. Violeta Galagarza to offer the youth of East Harlem free professional dance training and a way to rise above the difficulties of inner-city life. KR3T’S is well-known far beyond East Harlem for developing talent and transforming the life of countless youth. To date, KR3T’S has served thousands of students through dance and performed for millions of audience members. Many of Ms. Galagarza’s students have gone on to become established choreographers and dancers, performing on tours with artists such as Rihanna, Usher and Beyoncé as well as being in films such as In The Heights. Many of these prominent former students now return to KR3T’S to train the next generation of dancers out of love for Ms. Galagarza and the East Harlem community.
