Nella is a multi-medium community arts event presenting new works in Identity. Through a collaboration of mediums in Dance, Music, and Visual Art, Nella celebrates and challenges ideas of cultural belonging, understanding, and transformation. Inspired by selaginella lepidophylla, the title Nella responds to that of a spikemoss surviving under the most extreme of conditions, yet only needing a drop of water to grow back into its fullest potential. As a symbol of renewal and prosperity, Nella creates an innovative platform for emerging and established artists to gather, present new ideas, and unite in community resources.

We are calling choreographers to present new dance/performance works alongside small interactive art installations! We are looking for works researching Identity through themes of cultural belonging, understanding, and transformation. Your art installation will be a small way for the attendees to interact with your research through textures, readings, or writing/drawing/action-based prompts. Dance works can be up to 12 minutes and will be presented in the round. This is a raw, intimate sharing of new works, so lighting capabilities are limited. The venue is concrete flooring, so we ask that you plan accordingly to prioritize the safety and health of all performers.

Mutual Aid Organizations and Artist-supporting Organizations will be tabling at the event sharing insights, information, and resources for the community. Visual artists will be showcasing, selling, and creating live art! Maybe get a little self portrait?? There will be lots of art to connect and interact with, so we'd love to have you stay and participate in the full event!

At this time we are awaiting responses for funding for artist pay, however all artists will receive photos and video footage of rehearsal and show, a short recorded interview about your piece/creative process, and a percentage of ticket sales.

Nella has been created for the community of Brooklyn, creating an experience accessible to audience members representing all demographics age 21+. 100-150 audience members are anticipated with the participation of 3-5 dance groups, 3-5 bands, and 3-5 tabling organizations.
