Serious practice. Supportive space. All are welcome.

Mon–Fri, July 6–10 | 10AM–3PM
Green Space | 37-24 24th St | Long Island City, NY 11101

Join Ballaro Dance for a five-day creative residency centered on rigorous training, meaningful collaboration, and a deeply creative process. Mornings focus on contemporary technique and original phrasework with Marisa f. Ballaro, while afternoons are dedicated to developing Her America: Built by Dreamers—a new dance film and live performance project created in collaboration with Zoran Prodanovic of Ready Steady Cinema. Designed for dancers who want to train deeply, create boldly, and be part of an original work from studio to screen, the residency culminates in a sunrise film shoot beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Celebrating the 250th birthday of America, we reimagine the American story through the lens of women and the dreamers who shape the future; the project will premiere as a dance film, and continue as an invited live performance in New York City in fall 2026 or early 2027. Note that filming with Zoran Prodanovic is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 between 5:30am-8:00am pending weather, conditions, and filming needs.

This residency is designed as a continuous arc of training, dialogue, and making—held in a supportive and focused environment over five days. Participants are invited to arrive fully, work deeply, and contribute to a shared studio culture of rigor and care. Limited capacity ensures depth of attention and sustained engagement across the week.

RESIDENCY SCHEDULE:

MORNING WORKSHOP — Technique & Phrasework (10am-12pm, 2 hrs)
Explore space with curiosity; utilize breath and connection with attention to space and community. Explore full-bodied movement with biomechanical awareness, weight, texture, and sensitivity. Learn new phrasework created by Marisa f. Ballaro in collaboration with the Company.

MIDDAY — Break + Conversation (12pm-12:30pm, 30 min)
A space to pause, connect, refuel, and exchange ideas in community.

AFTERNOON LAB — Ballaro Dance, New Repertory (12:30pm-3pm, 2 hrs 30 min)
Develop a Ballaro repertory work—be in process and shape new material with the Company. The residency will include collaborators-in-process, and the culminating project will be developed and defined through the week’s work.
