Contemporary Forms w/ Obremski Works

Description: Join members of Obremski/Works's artistic team, Founder/Director Jesse Obremski and Rehearsal Directors Jie-Hung Connie Shiau, Michael Greenberg, and additional guests for Contemporary Forms classes emphasizing breath, individuality, and strength in expression. Each facilitator will bring their contemporary voice to share and, at times, utilize Obremski/Works repertory to build spaces of growth, expansion, and play. Classes will explore a vast range of expressions, depending on the facilitator, including floorwork, sensation-driven movement, and world-making.

 

Teacher Bio: Jesse Obremski(he/him), a native Japanese-American individual born and raised in New York, is an artist, educator, choreographer, director, singer, arts supporter, and advocate.

He started training at The Ailey School and later graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School (2012). In 2016, Obremski graduated from The Juilliard School, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. He has received additional training at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, and multiple years at The Ailey School, Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts (EMIA), and Springboard Danse Montréal.

Jesse has had the pleasure to perform with Kate Weare Company, Brian Brooks Moving Company, Wilder Project, RudduR Dance, SEAS Dance, DaretoCreate Dance Theatre, Janice Rosario and Company, Zest Collective, dancecandy, Peter Stathas Dance, Gallim Dance, WHITE WAVE Dance Company has been a company member with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company (2014-2016), Smashworks Dance (2016-2018), Limón Dance Company Principal and Soloist (2016-2019), and is currently a company member with Diversity of Dance (2015-present), Buglisi Dance Theatre (2016-present), Helen Simoneau Danse (2022-present), Gibney Company (guest artist from 2018-2019 and Artistic Associate from 2019-2024), and currently with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (2024-present).

Throughout his experiences, Jesse has had the honor of performing renowned works by choreographers such as Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Adam Barruch, Stijn Celis, Nacho Duato, Sharon Eyal, Johan Inger, Martha Graham (principal role), Johan Inger, José Limón (ensemble, soloist, and principal roles), Lar Lubovitch, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite, Ted Shawn (selected for the reconstruction via Jacob’s Pillow), Paul Taylor (principal role), among others and new creations by Kyle Abraham, MADBOOTS, Stefanie Batten Bland, Brian Brooks, Camille A. Brown, Rena Butler, Mark Caserta, Peter Chu, Jasmine Ellis, Vincent Hardy, Francesca Harper, Rennie Harris, Loni Landon, Virginie Mécène, Fredrick Earl Mosley, Alan Lucien Oyen, Shamel Pitts, Cindy Salgado, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Sonya Tayeh, Kate Weare, and Yue Yin, among others.
