10th Anniversary Dancing the Gods Indian Dance Festival - Rama Vaidyanathan (Bharatanatyam)

Woman performing Indian classical dance (Bharatanatyam)

The World Music Institute’s Dancing the Gods Festival celebrates its 10th year, this time designed and filmed specifically for virtual presentation. Audiences will be treated to feature performances from two of India’s leading dancers, preceded by a short film by two rising stars in the New York area dance scene, in contemporary dance presentations. Co-curated by Rajika Puri.

Program One features Bharatanatyam superstar Rama Vaidyanathan in "Vexed, Nervous, Haughty", in which she interprets three light-hearted songs through Bharatanatyam abhinaya or ‘mime’. Each work is set in a different language of India, and portrays a feisty woman responding to her lover’s overtures in a distinct mood and mode.

New Jersey-based Kathak exponent, Jin Won, will precede Rama’s unique presentation in an intriguing 12-minute film also conceived to be watched online.
