Afro’House with Tanyora
Company: Cumbe Center for African Diaspora Dance
Venue: Cumbe Center for African Diaspora Dance
Location: Brooklyn, NY
In this two-part workshop, we will explore Afro’House, its culture and movement. On day one, we will first get in touch with the culture, understand the rhythms and the body movements of the style to equip you with the tools to express yourself within the style. On day two, we will combine our new found skills and apply it to choreography that explores all the flavors of the style.
Tanyora is a dance teacher and architect from Haiti. She began immersing herself into dance at an early age through classes in Haitian Folkloric dance styles, contemporary, Jazz and Hip-op. She continued exploring various styles including Dancehall, Soca, Amapiano and Afro’House. Since being introduced to Afro’House, she continues to explore Street dances and shares her process and discoveries through her teachings in dance classes, by participating and creating events in New York City and as a representative and member of the Afro'House lab.
