Anna Sokolow and the Roots of Anti-Fascist Modern Dance

Two dancers reach out with straight arms as though searching Rishika Nath

In this performance and lecture, history isn’t just heard, it’s felt. Anna Sokolow was a modern dance pioneer of the 20th century who contributed to the foundations of theater and dance, and exemplified socio-political commentary through art. Today, her legacy company, the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, is collaborating with the Museum of Jewish Heritage to bring Anna's story to light. On Feb.1st, Artistic Director of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble Samantha Geracht traces Anna Sokolow’s pivotal contributions to the anti-fascist dance movement through archival footage and live performances. Featuring Samantha’s reimagination of “Slaughter of the Innocents”, and “The Soldier’s Wife” from Sokolow’s “Kurt Weill”, this is a relevant examination of choreographic activism.

February 1st, 2pm, at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, suggested $10 donation
