BALAM Dance Theatre Presents 'Return to Garden of Love in Miniature'

Garden of Love in Miniature Toshinori Hamada

Balinese and Baroque vibrant court theatre traditions come to life in BALAM Dance Theatre's (BALAM) debut of 'Return to the Garden of Love in Miniature'.   This imaginative work presented by Gotham Early Music Scene's (GEMS) Midtown Concerts features gorgeous Baroque costumes, a Balinese mask, and Balinese hand carved golden leather bird wings all on one stage, with live period music and operatic singing. This magical sequel to the company's well-received debut of 'Garden of Love in Miniature' in 2022 presents live Baroque music with excerpts from François Couperin’s Concerts Royeaux and Marc Antoine Charpentier's aria, Sans Freyeur Dans Ce Bois, song, dance, and an original script by Inma Heredia.

Performers: Dancers Carlos Fittante and Yumiko Niimi; Musicians of BALAM Lisa Terry on viola de gamba and Ryan Closs on therobo, guest musicians Dongsok Shin on harpsichord and Dongmyung Ahn on Baroque violin, and guest mezzo-soprano Eugenia Forteza, as the fictitious Senorita Dulce, a soon to be Lady in Waiting visiting the Garden of Love to read secretly her favorite romance novel.
