BKBX: A Monthly Show

A New Show the Last Saturday of Every Month: A Mime in white makeup holding their arm out.

BKBX: A Monthly Show will treat audiences to a mix of repertoire and new experimentation in one hour-long show.  NYC’s favorite silent-storytellers are back with their fresh take on mime redefined with performances on the last Saturday of the month starting this April. The entire evening will be language-less, and feature the multiply-diverse BKBX company of performing artists in collaboration with live musicians. Whether you’re an old friend or new to their work, you won’t want to miss this community-forward, recurring program.

Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) is a collaborative theater company that performs original, contemporary short plays entirely through movement. Based in NYC and founded in 2011, their version of “mime, redefined” blends techniques of French pantomime, cinema, performance art, and contemporary theater.. The diverse group of 19 artists who call BKBX their artistic home believe in making innovative, provocative theater that erases the spoken language barrier and champions the power of simplicity in performance. Their short plays range from realistic to metaphorical, heart-wrenching to hilarious, and cinematic to intimate. Past collaborations include Little Island, HERE, Frieze Art Fair, ART/NY, Mercury Store, Ars Nova, Wolf Trap, Madison Square Park Conservancy, 14Y, Wild Project, New York Deaf Theatre, Alliance Francaise (FIAF), Viceland, MTV.

THE NEW YORK TIMES: “A treat,” “their techniques are a wonder,” “impossibly emotive...wildly expressive.
