Beyond Technique class

Four performers stare out into the camera, their hands cover parts of their eyes and ears Lightreat

How do you acquire stage presence? What is the difference between emoting and feeling? And how do you accept the vulnerablility of performing? Beyond Technique addresses these questions and more.

Beyond Technique returns for its second year, led by Samantha Géracht, Artistic Director of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble. Using movement as the foundation of emotional projection, a method Anna Sokolow developed while teaching at Juilliard, the class aims to help dancers deepen their performance with nuance and authenticity. In addition to ST/DE faculty, guest teachers from a variety of modern dance traditions—Graham, Horton, Nikolais/Louis, and Humphrey/Weidman/Limón—will periodically offer their perspectives, providing participants breadth in their practice of performing.

In response to the recent cuts to arts budgets and the increasing economic challenges facing performing artists, and with thanks to a generous donor, we are able to offer this class for $10 through the end of 2025.
