Close Quarters IV

a man looks down with his arms outspread, he peers through text that reads "Close Quarters IV" Lightreat

On the intimate, jewelbox stage of the Slipper Room, the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble (ST/DE) reveals never-before staged dances dug from the archives, as well as Sokolow’s rarely seen theater work, “From the Diaries of Franz Kafka.”

Anna Sokolow (1910-2000) was such a prolific choreographer that many of her works remain unseen. “Close Quarters IV” changes that by sharing these newly restaged works, including “Everything Must Go,” “Solo from Opus ‘58,” and an unearthed version of “The Pond and The Cage.” Also on the program, and highlighting the theatrical side of Sokolow, are excerpts from “From the Diaries of Franz Kafka,” featuring actor Gabe Girson in Sokolow’s dramatization of the existentialist writer’s life and stories. Doors open at 7:30pm, show at 8pm, one night only at The Slipper Room, 167 Orchard St (enter on Stanton Street) New York, NY 10002.
