DONATION BASED COMMUNITY SWING AND IMPROVISATION CLASS WITH DONNA COSTELLO AT BAX

Class description
I envision something based in swing dance but with creative expressive / improvisational / & compositional elements tucked into learning the basic steps of the partner dance and maybe also time for some of the line dances and/or circle dances of swing dance. The class will focus on bringing together community and people / dancers of different ages / abilities.
Experience required of participants
None. An open mind and a joy for dancing.
Suggested Donation
$8, or pay what you can. All donations go to the teacher of the day.
About Donna
Donna Costello is a dance artist based in Brooklyn. As a performer she has worked intensively with: jill sigman/thinkdance, Vicky Shick, Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance (founding member), Carrie Ahern, Jimena Paz, composer Anne Hege and theater company Vagabond Inventions. She is an educator in the NYC public schools and on-site for Brooklyn Arts Exchange, the Park Avenue Armory and Lincoln Center Education. Her own choreographic work has been shown at DanceRoulette, Movement Research at Judson Church, Dance Conversations at the Flea, GreenSpace, Brooklyn Arts Exchange and DanceNow/NYC. Currently, she is collaborating with director Jennifer Sargent and making a new work with a collective of fellow artists.
This series is a part of the CREATING SPACE Program. Funded in large part by the Lambert Foundation Fund of Tides Foundation, the CREATING SPACE Program provides opportunities to support and develop artists of all races, backgrounds, cultures, sexual orientations, gender identities and aesthetic traditions.
