Dancer Wellness Series, Part 2: Lower Extremity (LE) Impact & Injury Prevention for Dancers

This session will break down the biomechanics of landing from jumps and the impact of dance shoes on the foot and ankle. We will review how dancers should use their feet, ankles, and knees as a coordinated system for shock absorption.  

Participants will learn eccentric strengthening exercises to prevent common overuse injuries like shin splints and tendonitis. 

Presenter Bio:  

Dr. Emily Love, PT, DPT, OCS is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist specializing in dance medicine. She holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, Texas. Emily brings fifteen years of diverse dance training in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance directly into her clinical practice. Throughout her dance career, she performed works by Twyla Tharp and Fernando Bujones, and she furthered her training with the Ailey School, Kaatsbaan, Joffrey Midwest, Tulsa Ballet, and Paul Taylor. Based in Oklahoma City, Dr. Love works extensively with pre-professional, university-level, and professional performing artists. She is passionate about using her unique background as both a dancer and a clinician to deliver highly specialized care to meet each dancer’s specific needs.
