Romance is in the air! Make your St. Valentine’s Day plans early and attend Gotham Early Music Scene’s Midtown Concerts series featuring BALAM Dance Theatre’s new Baroque dance program, Dancing the Lyra Way, a collaborative project by the viol duo, Lyra Way.
Imagine being shipwrecked and rescued by your betrothed! See BALAM Dance Theatre’s imaginative choreography that draws inspiration from the vivid lives of King James I of England and his queen, Anne of Denmark. Witness these adventures in stylish choreographic Baroque vignettes exploring themes of adventure, marriage, and estrangement, culminating in a powerful communal dance celebrating peace and prosperity. Hear rare English17th-century viol compositions by Tobias Hume, Thomas Ford, William Byrd, and Alfonso Ferrabosco performed masterfully by musicians Lisa Terry and Niccolo Seligmann.
Dancers: Carlos Fittante, Yumiko Niimi, and Erin Hunter Jennings
The program will be presented live, in person and streaming at https://www.youtube.com/midtownconcerts
