ISADORA DUNCAN TECHNIQUE & REPERTORY WORKSHOP + SHOWING

Join us for an opportunity to study, investigate, and embody the enduring repertory of Isadora Duncan (1877–1927). This multi-week workshop meets once a week for three hours and will culminate in an informal studio showing.

Dances We Dance is inviting a small group of committed and curious dancers who wish to delve deeply into Isadora Duncan’s movement language. Sessions will take place on Sundays and will begin with a technique class, followed by focused work on one or more repertory dances. Dancers interested in performing in the final informal studio showing are encouraged to attend most Sunday sessions. Please be aware that the repertory could include substantial aerobic movement. Workshop will run from February 8 to May 31, Sundays 1-4 pm.

In the spirit of accessibility, the workshop fee is $18 per session. Dancers who wish to attend only the technique portion are welcome to do so at the same rate. No previous experience with Duncan technique is required—only openness, curiosity, and a readiness to engage physically and artistically with the work. However, space is limited; students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

This workshop offers dancers a chance to connect with the living roots of modern dance, gaining both embodied and contextual insight into the foundations of contemporary theater and movement. Together, we will explore how Duncan’s groundbreaking vocabulary emerged and how it has continued to resonate and evolve over more than a century.

Isadora Duncan was a visionary artist and cultural revolutionary whose work helped usher in modernism. Centered in breath and the solar plexus, her movement principles remain profoundly relevant today. This workshop approaches Duncan’s authentic material through a contemporary perspective informed by the instructor’s broad movement background.

Join us for an immersive and inspiring journey into the origins of modern dance.
