Experiments in Practice w/ Kyle Marshall
Ted Alcorn
EXPERIMENTS IN PRACTICE DROP-IN SERIES: SATURDAYS, 1:00-2:45PM EST ONLINE
For educators, professional dance artists, and dancers ages 18+
$10 per drop-in class
This contemporary movement practice series embraces the classroom as a site of radical potential. Join ADF faculty members to reimagine what’s possible through the ways we move, compose, improvise, think, write, read, and talk with one another. This unique series is designed for teachers and dance artists who want to experience new class structures and ways of creating knowledge.
Classes are collaborative, interwoven, experimental, and learning is shared and documented. These classes also provide a great opportunity to sample our summer and winter intensives.
November 7: Take this online class with NYC-based artist, Kyle Marshall. Recognizing the body as a container of history, class will draw influence from post-modernisms and black dance aesthetics. Movement will emphasize rhythm, footwork, articulation, stability and release. Tasked improvisations are used to recall our dancing histories and to manifest our physical potential. Our inner groove and the power of our vessels will be harnessed through phrase work and spatial play. Class is intended to equally encourage the body, mind and spirit. Reflective conversation and writing prompts throughout the class are offered as space to process and discuss our moving selves.
