Extensions Dance Company Spring Concert

Salve Regina University’s Extensions Dance Company, directed by associate professor Lindsay Guarino, will present Verve at the Casino Theatre from Feb. 28- March 2. The program will showcase a range of spirited pieces that embrace dynamic energy and physical prowess. Verve captures the vigor at the heart of the American aesthetic – rhythm, power, and soul.

Lindsay Guarino will present Sidewinder to the upbeat 1964 Lee Morgan jazz standard of the same name. The piece will be performed to live music by Salve Regina’s Jazz Combo, led by Peter Davis and Michael Johnson. Buffalo, NY-based Carlos Jones will debut a jazz piece titled Amalgamate. The dancers travel through different cultures and rhythms to explore the shared groove that exists across continents. Former Broadway dancer and Rockette Kimberly Calore-Sedlak will present What is Jazz, a theatrical jazz piece in the style of Jack Cole.

Verve will also feature works by Boston-based choreographers Cayley Christoforou ’15 and Kat Pantos of Pantos Project Dance. Faculty member Melody Gamba will present a new piece choreographed on Extensions II, the junior company which she co-directs. Student choreographers include Maddie Stewart ’19 and Marissa Masson ‘19. Masson’s piece, Synergy, was most recently performed at WaxWorks in Brooklyn, NY.

Performances are at 8 pm on Thursday the 28th, Friday the 1st, and Saturday the 2nd, with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2 pm. The Casino Theatre is located at 9 Freebody Street in Newport, R.I. Tickets are $8 for Salve Regina Students/Faculty/Staff, $10 for Military and Seniors, and $15 for General Admission. Please call 401-341-2250 to reserve your seats or purchase online. Tickets will also be available immediately prior to each performance at the box office.
