Failing Forward, Again

A dancer with hands on a steel I beam Stephanie Berger

STREB EXTREME ACTION brings its thrilling feats of physicality, grace, strength, and risk back to SLAM! This fall’s performances, FAILING FORWARD AGAIN, will showcase new action, new stunts, and new ideas, along with some familiar favorites.

FAILING FORWARD, AGAIN investigates Elizabeth Streb’s philosophy that failure is an integral part of the creative process, making space for discovery and innovation and leading to unexpected, surprising and truly original moves. The show will feature gasp-inducing first looks at these experiments, the likes of which can only be experienced at STREB’s warehouse space, SLAM. This gem of Williamsburg is uniquely qualified to house these bold investigations. PLUS, the company will share a show-and-tell preview of STREB’s newest Action Machine – SURF, a Maverick Wave apparatus designed to evoke motions surfers confront in the ocean’s gargantuan, 70 to 100 feet high, maverick waves, with power and turbulence.

FAILING FORWARD, AGAIN is possible with major public support from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; lead foundation support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Booth Ferris Foundation, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, Harkness Foundation for Dance, Howard Gilman Foundation, Hyde & Watson Foundation, Investors Bank Foundation, M&T Bank Foundation, Mertz Gilmore Foundation, James E. Robison Foundation, Select Equity Group Foundation; and many generous individual donors.

Tickets start at $25!

In a banner with text that reads: Dark Room Ballet Collegium 2025, there are 5 small images of each instructor: Shannon crouches on the floor holding a microphone with neon yellow/green tulle draped across their body and smushing their face. They speak/sing into the microphone with their eyes closed. * Hannah stands on a large rock in a mountain meadow, surrounded by wildflowers and tall pine trees. She stands with her left leg held straight and supporting her, while her right leg is lifted high to the side, nearly horizontal. Her left arm curves overhead, and her right arm stretches toward her raised foot, creating a diagonal line across her body. She wears leggings, a short-sleeve shirt, trail shoes, and sunglasses, with her hair in two braids. The sky is clear, and snow-capped mountains are visible in the distance. * A headshot photo of Davian
