GIFT: A Life In Dance

Manhattan, NY - Multiple generations gather in “GIFT: A Life In Dance,” illuminating shifts in physicality and sensitivity, and the growth of artistry over the course of a lifetime. Presented by Dances by Isadora and Catherine Gallant/DANCE in recognition of Ms. Gallant's decades-long career, “GIFT” features recent work by Gallant, multimedia films, and reconstructions of Isadora Duncan’s dances accompanied by live piano.

Three powerful yet introspective dances from Isadora Duncan’s late period (c.1921) contrast with her earlier work, a selection from the  “Brahms Waltzes, Op. 39 (c.1912),” all performed by Ms. Gallant and guest artists. Alan Moverman, Gallant’s longtime collaborator, accompanies on live piano. Multiple short films exhibit Gallant’s versatility as an artist. Notably, a short documentary on Gallant’s personal journey in the legacy of Isadora Duncan, from age ten through the present: learning more than 100 of Duncan’s dances and becoming a recognized interpreter of the work. Also featured is Gallent’s personal choreographic practice, distinct from Duncan’s movement vocabulary, in two contemporary dances: “Stand” (2025), a solo performed by Ms. Gallant, and a quintet, “Late Echo” (2022).

Through “GIFT: A Life In Dance,” Gallant recognizes the upcoming 150th Anniversary of Isadora Duncan's birth in 2027, acknowledging Duncan’s formative contributions to the development of modern dance and those who pass on her artistry.
