Gumboot Workshop with Mpho LePantsula
Company: Cumbe Center for African Diaspora Dance
Venue: Cumbe Center for African Diaspora Dance
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Gumboot Dance is an unsung signature dance of South Africa, rooted in the memory of the gold that was discovered in the mines.. To carry on the tradition of gumboot, Mpho’s workshop offers both an uncompromising authenticity and creative presentation of African dance forms through its beat, rhythms and stories.e will move from the basic elements of Gumboot dance for better understanding of its history to forming the rhythms of our own music. We will dance to enjoy and with a purpose.
Please bring your own pair of gumboots (or rain boots, garden boots, construction workers boots, similar boots) to have a “proper” experience of the dance.
Upon completion of a bachelor’s degree in administration, Mpho deviated, pressed the refresh button and gave in to his passion for dance and social development. Years later, he emerged a fervent creative leader and social entrepreneur with extensive experience, relentless commitment, and zeal for the development of the performing arts in South Africa.
