NEW YORK, NY – Dances We Dance proudly presents its unifying 2025 Fall Season, “Harmonic Dissonance,” a symphony of classical modern dance in dialogue with the future. Rarely seen works by Isadora Duncan and Doris Humphrey return to the stage alongside contemporary choreographic premieres and a guest appearance by the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble. Currently, Dances We Dance (DWD) is the last company outside the Graham school scheduled to perform in this historic Westbeth space in the West Village. “Harmonic Dissonance” offers a fitting homage to the iconic dance space which was home to Merce Cunningham for 50 years, followed by the Graham Company.
The first half of “Harmonic Dissonance” opens with “Air for the G String” by Doris Humphrey, originally created in 1928. Eminent Humphrey dancers Gail Corbin - who also restaged the work - and Lauren Naslund share the solo role. Following is Isadora Duncan’s choreography to “Schubert’s Symphony No. 9,” carefully resurrected by DWD Director Francesca Todesco. Both dances revel in transcendent scores and graceful group sections. The second half spotlights fresh choreography from within the DWD company. Francesca Todesco plays off of the “Scriabin Etudes” by Duncan with a suite of new solos and small group works while company dancer Rosy Gentle offers a premier, “Solo? Repeat!” The Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble makes a guest appearance with “Schubert Impromptu” by Claudia Gitelman. Performances will be held Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 5:30 PM, at 55 Bethune Street, 11th floor, New York City. Tickets are $37 general admission and $27 for students and seniors.
