Ailey Extension invites dancers of all levels and backgrounds to a one-night-only Horton workshop with Ailey II’s esteemed Artistic Director, Troy Powell. Powell’s rise to his current position as Artistic Director began at age 9 when Alvin Ailey selected him to receive a scholarship to The Ailey School. Over the years, he grew from student to Ailey II company member to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company member for ten years. Powell is only the second person in almost 40 years to lead Ailey II, the renowned second company to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Workshop participants will learn the significance of Horton technique to Ailey’s signature style and choreography while developing tools that help improve technique and artistry. Dancers will have the chance to challenge and reinvent their storytelling ability while heightening their technical skills, improve movement quality, and expand stylistic range. This workshop is taught with live accompaniment.
