MorDance premieres Trees, a new evening-length ballet that explores the profound intelligence, beauty, and resilience of the natural world. Rooted in the groundbreaking research of forest ecologist Dr. Suzanne Simard, Trees draws inspiration from how forests communicate and support one another through underground mycorrhizal networks. These systems of mutual care and connection reflect our shared human interdependence. Choreographed by Artistic Director Morgan McEwen and set to an original score by acclaimed composer Polina Nazaykinskaya, Trees invites audiences to experience nature not as a static backdrop, but as a dynamic, responsive force worthy of reverence and protection. Through expressive movement and a richly layered musical landscape, the ballet becomes a poetic reflection on climate resilience, environmental responsibility, and collective care. Trees features eight dancers and live accompaniment by a 10-piece string ensemble. With Trees, MorDance continues its mission to use ballet as a platform for connection, awareness, and social impact, creating immersive experiences that speak to the urgency and beauty of our world.
