This December, Flushing Town Hall celebrates multicultural holidays with Calpulli Mexican Dance Company with Navidad, a holiday production of the shared traditions of Mexico and the United States through dance, music, and storytelling. The new version of the story will bring the highlights of the original show in a one hour format without intermission.

Under the Artistic Direction of Grisel Pren Monje, the work follows a young person of Mexican immigrant parents growing up in New York City. From Aztec-inspired dance to Christmas carols, the youngster experiences two worlds and dreams of bringing them together, imagining Mariachi meeting Tchaikovsky and folklorico blending with ballet. The original story premiered in 2018 co-written by co-founders of Calpulli, Alberto Lopez Herrera and Juan Castaño, with music by George Saenz.

Navidad is a signature blend of folklorico and contemporary dance. The performance brings to life popular traditions such as La Virgen de Guadalupe, Las Posadas, La Rama, and the Fandango from Mexico inviting Christmas Carols, Holiday Jazz, and the Nutcracker in the US. Calpulli seeks to offer audiences of all ages a joyful and heartfelt celebration of the season.
