About New Victory Dance

Swing into summer with New Victory Dance, the annual mini-festival of NYC dance curated specifically for kids! MCed by New Victory Teaching Artists, each program showcases a diverse lineup of acclaimed NYC-based dance companies—three per program, nine in total—and features a choreographer Talk-Back with a chance to dance from your seat. It's your family date with dance!

Michael Mao Dance

Weaving (Excerpt)

Genre: Modern

Weaving soars with choreographer Michael Mao's childhood memories from Southeast Asia. Set to the rhythm of pounding drums, Weaving is defined by its strength and beauty.

Gibney Company

Vukani (Excerpt)

Genre: Contemporary

Xhosa for "to awaken," Vukani explores communion with elders and a search for guidance. Choreographed by Mthuthuzeli November, the piece is informed by traditional South African dance, street dance, ballet and contemporary styles.

Behavioral Synchrony

Genre: Contemporary

Set to the beats of Indigenous electronic group The Halluci Nation, Behavioral Synchrony asks dancers to throw themselves—spiritually, mentally, creatively, physically—into work using percussion as a foundation.
