PATIENT(CE) - a physical requiem

COMPANY SBB TO PRESENT ‘PATIENT(CE)’ AT THE JACK SHAINMAN GALLERY ON JUNE 24

On Saturday, June 24, Jerome Robbins Awardee Stefanie Batten Bland will bring her internationally-acclaimed Company SBB to present “Patient(ce) - a physical requiem” at The School at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Kinderhook, NY.

Noted by The Dance Enthusiast’s Christine Jowers as an artist who “doesn’t simply choreograph bodies, she orchestrates environments,” Batten Bland created “Patient(ce)” in 2015 as an ode to controversial contemporary jazz composer and filmmaker, Ed Bland -- who is also Stefanie’s father.  This deeply personal interdisciplinary work is inspired by the structure of jazz with its formal emphasis on the eternal present. Through a collaboration with futuristic jazz ensemble Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber and visual installation by Alaric Hahn and Batten Bland herself, “Patient(ce)” examines the grace one finds in life when harmony is found through space and time.

The 50-minute work will be performed by Stefanie Batten Bland and Company SBB dancers Yeman Brown, Will Brown, Winston Brown, Jennifer Payan and Mistral Hay.  Led by Greg Tate, members of the Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber- Mikel Banks, Julie Brown, Chris Eddleton and V. Jeffrey Smith- will also perform live.  Costumes are by Deborah Ferguson.

The performance will take place at The School at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Kinderhook, NY to celebrate the opening of “The Coffins of Paa Joe and the Pursuit of Happiness” exhibit at 3pm and is free to the public.

The School at the Jack Shainman Gallery is located at 25 Broad Street in Kinderhook, NY.  Transportation is provided from Manhattan.  For more information, please visit www.jackshainman.com/june24 or call (212) 645-1701.
