NimbusPRESENTS: Stand Up

October 23, 2pm

Dance

Celebrating artists as leaders, communicators, and voices of conscience and protest, Nimbus curates a program proclaiming the critical importance of social justice issues of the current moment, and the thread of these issues throughout American history.

People Place Disruption, a work created in collaboration with Jersey City artists, filmmakers, and video artists as a dance film in Spring 2021, returns as a live performance this season. Lauded as “impactful” and “accomplished” the work features emerging choreographic voices within Nimbus. Also on the program: two masterpieces of the 20th century: Strange Fruit (Dr. Pearl Primus, 1943) and Lynchtown (Charles Weidman, 1936), and a new work created by Hudson County youth about the current social injustices they feel compelled to "Stand Up" against.

Artist Collaborators: Derick McKoy Jr • Aanyse Chandler • Justin Cosme-Perez • Isabele Rosso LeighAnn Curd Donterreo Culp • Laia Cabrera & Isabelle Duverger • Jennifer Brown • Isabelle Duverger Myssi Robinson • William Stamos • Rachel Therres • Melida Rodas • Joe Velez • Theda Sandiford • Sara Erickson

This program is sponsored in part by the Hudson County Historical Partnership Program.
