About the Works
‘bumalik: sirkulo’ (Tagalog for “return: circle”) is a performance installation centering a dynamic bamboo sculpture, movement, live sound – transmuting spirit in communal gathering. Exploring the constant disorientation/reorientation of the migrant body in foreign environments, ‘bumalik: sirkulo’ explores the psychological and sociopolitical challenges Filipina mother service labourers and their diasporic children face displaced from their ancestral homes. The work incorporates 19 standing poles, 4 dance performers (Paspe, Reyes, Ching-I Chang, Paulina Meneses), and 2 live musicians (treya lam, acoustic musician, and Sugar Vendil, electronic musician).
