2018 LINE UP FOR THE AMERICAN TAP DANCE FOUNDATION'S "TAP CITY," THE NEW YORK CITY TAP FESTIVAL

FROM JULY 7 to JULY 13 NEW YORK CITY BECOMES “TAP CITY!”

The American Tap Dance Foundation’s TAP CITY, THE NEW YORK CITY TAP FESTIVAL will return for its 18th year from Saturday, July 7 through Friday, July 13 with local and international tap dance artists, master classes, a tap dance boat tour around Manhattan,Tap Dance Awards, Rhythm in Motion Concert Performance and “Tap it Out,” a free outdoor tap dance event in the middle of Times Square. *Lineup below.

TAP CITY, The New York City Tap Festival celebrates the American Tap Dance Foundation’s ongoing commitment to establish and legitimize tap dance as a vital component of American dance through creation, presentation, education and preservation. ATDF is in a unique position as both a promoter of the new and preserver of the living history of tap dance.

In July, the American Tap Dance Foundation will celebrate 32 years since its founding by tap master Charles “Honi” Coles, his protégée Brenda Bufalino, and the Foundation’s current artistic and executive director, Tony Waag.

MONDAY, JULY 9 at 6:30pm - Copasetic Boat Ride – Circle Line Marina, Pier 83, West 42nd St. at Hudson River VIDEO (Boards 6:30pm, Sails 7:00pm, Returns 10:00pm) Tap City’s cruise around Manhattan with live band and tap jam performances by Tap City festival students, teachers and local tap professionals will be hosted this year by Nicholas Young, the New York-based, dancer, musician, choreographer and cast member of the Off Broadway sensation STOMP. TUESDAY, JULY 10 at 7pm – The American Tap Dance Foundation TAP DANCE AWARDS at The Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre, Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. Film presentations and performances will honor the ATDF Hoofer, Tap Preservation & International Tap Dance Hall of Fame awards. This year’s award winners include Jared Grimes and Katherine Kramer (2018 Hoofer Award); Leticia Jay (2018 Tap Preservation Award); and Ralph Brown & The Tap Happenings (2018 Tap Dance Hall of Fame Awards) Tickets: $20 ($15 until day of show) To purchase visit: Tap Awards Tickets

WEDNESDAY, JULY 11 – “RHYTHM IN MOTION” Tap Dance Concert Performance – 8pm– The Rhythm is Gonna Get You! - Peter Norton Symphony Space - 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. Boundary breaking takes on tap by NYC’s finest tappers & choreographers! Rhythm in Motion will premiere fresh and innovative new work showcasing the rich diversity of contemporary tap dance by young and emerging talent and premiere choreographers in the field. New work to be shown, created by ATDF Artists in Residence - choreography by Brinae Ali, Chloe Arnold, Christina Carminucci, Michelle Dorrance, Felipe Galganni, Ana Rokafella Garcia, Lisa La Touche, Charles Renato, Tamii Sakurai, Delores Sanchez, Leo Sandoval, Samara Seligsohn, Caleb Teicher and Nicholas Van Young.

FRIDAY, JULY 13 – “TAP IT OUT” a free, public outdoor tap dance event at 1pm, 1:30pm, and 2pm – Father Duffy Square/Times Square (Broadway, W. 46 St. To W. 47 St., 7 Avenue in Manhattan) – Adult and pre-professional students create a chorus of hundreds of tapping feet. The contemporary percussion and movement “soundscape” promotes tap dance as pure music, while consciously deconstructing the basic elements that propel tap forward.
