Flyer with images of Punking/Waacking originators and other artists such as Billy Goodson, DJ Michael Angelo, Jody Watley, etc. Princess Lockerooo flyer

Waacking / Punking History Symposium and DANCE JAM happening at the LGBT Center Oct 2 2025 6pm-9:30pm! FREE, performances and refreshments included!

Collaboration between Princess Lockerooo as head lecturer and director/teacher of the Waack Dancer Training Program , The LGBT Center‘s Activist-in-Residence Fellow Dez the Joy, and music brought to you by DJ Karma Stylz.

Show up and explore the deeply QUEER history of punking, the birth of waacking, and the lineage of this dance and its influence in NYC via Soul Train legend Tyrone “The Bone” Proctor and others, and dance to some of the grooviest music that disco has to offer in our last hour disco jam.

This event is in part created from the wishes that more LGBTQ+ individuals in NYC are exposed to the fabulous, audacious, and liberatory history of this dance form and its roots in queer Black, Latinx, and Asian communities in America. Whether you dance to disco, at all, or just want a space to feel belonging to, please come and enjoy this evening! This event will connect you to future offerings held by Punk Something NYC and get you into the know of future waacking events happening around the city.

This is dance history, queer history, Black, Latinx, and Asian history. This is an opportunity to explore something you may not hear too much about, but has changed countless lives as a dance representing authenticity, resilience, and queer audacity.
